LGC Election: PDP Salutes Edo Voters For Landslide Victory

…pledges to make elected officials accountable

Edo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has acknowledged Edo voters for their continued support for the party and voting all the party candidates in just concluded Local Government Council election of Saturday, 2 September, 2023 in the state.

While address journalists today, Thursday 7, 2023 at the party secretariat on Airport Road, Benin City, the state chairman of the party, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, thank Edo voters and other critical stakeholders in the electoral process, noted that the party victory in all the Eighteen (18) Local Government Areas and One Hundred and Ninety Two (192) Wards was a vote of confidence on the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led PDP administration in the state.
According to Aziegbemin, “On Saturday September 2nd, 2023, you all came out in your numbers and voted overwhelmingly for all the PDP chairmanship and councillorship candidates in the 18 local governments and 192 Wards in the State.
“Indeed it was a loud endorsement and a vote of confidence in the PDP administration led by His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki, the Executive Governor of Edo State. The outcome is reflective of the dominance of the PDP in Edo State and the vigorous campaigns carried out by the party across all the 18 LGAs, 192 Wards, 4519 Units in the state.
While thanking the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) and other stakeholders in election management in the state, Aziegbemin said, “The Edo State PDP will like to use this medium to thank and appreciate the State Independent Electoral Commission for standing upright and shunning all intimidation and blackmail tactics deployed by some enemies of democracy, before and during the Local Government Councils elections. The security agencies and members of the press are well appreciated for their vigilance that led to rancor free, fair and credible polls where the votes of the people counted”.
Aziegbemin who also eulogized Governor Godwin Obaseki for giving EDSIEC the enabling environment to be truly independent in the performance of their duty as electoral umpire, assured that the Council elected officials will keep to the dictates of the PDP manifestos.
“The Edo PDP will also like to pour econmiums on the opposition parties for putting us a gallant fight. In democracy, the minority will have their say but the majority will always have the trophy. We extend our hands of fellowship to all who participated in the elections and call on them to join in our determination to make life meaningful and better for our people at the grassroots. The victory in such a contest does not belong to any individual or party but to democracy.
“On our part, as a party, we shall strive to ensure that the elected representatives keep to the dictates of the manifesto of the party which emphasizes transparency, equity, fairness and justice in the utilization of resources for the development of our local governments for the overall benefits of our people. We will not take this overwhelming vote of confidence in our party by the Edo State voters for granted. We make a covenant this day not to disappoint the people.
“The elected chairmen and councilors will immediately key into the templates which have been put in place by the Governor Obaseki-led administration that have seen Edo State becoming the hub of new businesses, educational revitalization, sports, agriculture and other essentials of development”, Aziegbemin assured.
