Alleged Plans To Disrupt Election: LP Calls On Edo CP To Beef Up Security
…As Ogbaloi admonishes vigilante not to allow themselves to be used to disrupt election
By Simeon OSAJIE
The Labour Party (LP) in Edo State says it is aware of plans by some leading political parties in the state to disrupt Saturday’s House of Assembly’s election.
Chairman of Labour Party in the state, Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the party’s secretariat in Benin City.
Ogbaloi, who was flanked by leaders of the Party in the state said the Party is aware of plans by other political parties to stuff ballot boxes with ballot papers to cause over voting that would lead to cancellation of the exercise in Labour Party’s stronghold across the 18 local government of Edo State.
He said apart from stuffing the ballot boxes, one of the parties also has plan to use violence so that elections in such units would be cancelled.
Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi called on the Edo State Commissioner of Police (CP) and other security agencies to ensure adequate security at the polling units and for voters to be vigilant in order to prevent plans to disrupt the election.
While also calling on members of the Edo security network, popularly called vigilante, not to allow themselves to be used to disrupt the election, the Labour Party Chairman appealed to members of the public, especially Obidient family and supporters to repeat what they did during the Presidential and National Assembly elections by coming out en masse to vote for Labour Party candidates in Saturday’s House of Assembly election.
He therefore appealed to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prepare fully for the election by mobilizing its officials adequately for the exercise.
