Tanker Crushes Tricycle Driver In Effurun
By Simeon OSAJIE
A tanker has crushed a tricycle and its driver to death in Effurun, along the Warri-Sapele Road, Delta State.
It was gathered that the unidentified driver of the tricycle was plying one-way on the rout of the tanker driver, who claimed that he did not see the tricycle and hence, crushed it by squeezing it under another tanker parked by the roadside.
The sad event, which took place just before the Tomatoes Market, was seen as a warning to drivers who like plying one-way on that rout instead of going the distance to make a U-turn.
Fear and pain could be seen on the faces of on-lookers and commuters who also consider the parking of tanker trucks along the Warri-Sapele Road a major cause of concern.
Mr Udo Ifechukwu, who witnessed the scene, stated that some of the trucks parked along the road, around the market area, carry tomatoes, onions and other commodities, loaded on the tanks, to the market.
“After offloading the goods, the trucks are supposed to leave the arena but they don’t. These are fuel trucks. They shouldn’t be here even if they are empty,” he said.
Both commuters and traders called on the road safety authorities and the Delta State Government to set up a task force to checkmate both plying of one-way and indiscriminate parking of trucks along the express roads, especially around the Tomatoes Market area.
