The Executive Governor of Edo State,  Mr. Godwin Obaseki today said that he has delivered good governance and expressed optimism that the incoming administration would inherit a masterplan that would  guide them into the future for a greater Edo.

He also poured encomiums on two former governors of Edo State, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, and Prof. Oserhermen  Osunbor for defying their political differences and identifying with the state government on the milestone of the state 33rd anniversary.

Obaseki, who assured to bequeath to Edo people a new Edo Nation, said the government is committed to restoring a new Edo with sustainable development.

The two former governors, Lucky Igbinedion and  Prof  Oserhermen Osunbor, are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) respectively, who defied their political differences and participated in the celebration of the state at 33 years, entitled,  “Edo State Masterplans: A Pathway to the New Edo Nation.”

This is just as Adams Oshiomhole,  a former governor of Edo State and Obaseki’s predecessor was conspicuous absent at the event.

While full of appreciation to former governors, Lucky Igbinedion and Prof. Oserhermen Osunbor, Obaseki said their identifying with the government and support was a great boost to his finishing strong agenda.

He said the state government under his watch has improved on the public infrastructure and has continued to chart the path for a greater Edo since the past 8 years.

He said the historic celebration of the state creation 33 years ago informed his decision for a masterplan that would be a guide to his successor.

Obaseki said the masterplan is to guide and establish a trajectory for where Edo state should be headed for the next 30 years.

“Today, we have been able to make a significant departure  from what we met in 2016. What we saw was not pleasant when I assumed office. “

According to him, there was lopsided development that had to be stopped and dealt with.

He noted that prior to his emergence as governor of Edo State, there was a high level of human trafficking and irregular migration among the youths,  which  undermined the state’s economic progress and development.

“We witnessed a high level of human trafficking and high irregular migration, hence the need for a plan.”

Obaseki, who stressed the need for planning, said planning is key to achieving sustainable development.

“The crisis we are in today as a country and a state is the fact that we fail to know that we must plan. In Edo State, I believe we are on the path of restoring the glory of a new Edo nation, and the incoming administration will have inherited a masterplan that would  guide them into the future,” Obaseki said.
