A member of the Federal House of Representatives, Dr. Ahmed Adamu Saba, representing Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency of Kwara State, has been accused of defrauding his constituent of N5million under the pretext of securing him an official international passport through an aide appointment.

The victim, identified as Ahmed Kabir, detailed how the lawmaker, once a trusted community brother, allegedly exploited him financially and emotionally, using his political office to threaten and intimidate him.

Kabir narrated: “I am here today to speak out against a grave injustice committed by someone I once called a brother, not just in blood but in community. Hon. Ahmed Adamu Saba, member of the House of Representatives for Edu/Moro/Patigi, defrauded me of N5 million under the pretense of helping me secure an official international passport.

I approached him when I needed the passport, and he told me he would appoint me as his aide so that he could use that influence to get it for me. We had a clear agreement, and I paid the N5 million in good faith.

According to Kabir, N3.5 million was transferred to the Moniepoint account of Saba’s legislative aide, Zakari Dauda Mohammed, while another N1.5 million was given to Zakari in cash at the direct instruction of the lawmaker.

“This wasn’t a casual transaction. It was based on trust, on our shared heritage, and on his promise to use his office to assist me. But instead of fulfilling his promise, Hon. Adamu used his position to intimidate me. He warned me not to speak out, threatening consequences if I dared to expose him,” Kabir alleged.

Kabir revealed that the matter eventually reached the Emir’s Palace in Shonga, where community elders urged Saba to return the money.

“After pressure from our respected elders, he refunded N500,000 through his Chief of Staff, Malam Hussain. But shockingly, he later asked me to return that N500,000 back. I agreed, and kept asking the Chief of Staff for his account details to refund it, but he never responded. Just silence,” Kabir said.

He added that Saba also appointed him as a ghost legislative aide, which allowed him to receive a federal salary for five months – but every month, the lawmaker allegedly collected the entire salary through Zakari’s account.

“The only thing he left with me was a legislative aide ID card. Something he proudly gave me as if it were compensation for my N5 million. That ID card fed me nothing and did nothing to heal the humiliation I endured,” Kabir said.

SaharaReporters obtained a copy of a letter dated August 5, 2025, where Hon. Saba formally wrote to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) requesting an official passport for Kabir, describing him as his aide.

“I hereby wish to request your approval of official passport to my Legislative Aide Ahmed Kabir… to enable us travel to the United States of America on an official assignment,” the letter, signed by Hon. Saba, read in part.

This letter further contradicts Saba’s later denial that he had nothing to do with the arrangement.

In his response, however, Saba dismissed Kabir’s claims, describing them as a smear campaign engineered by his political opponents.

He argued that Kabir was the one who requested assistance to travel abroad and had been linked to him through the Kwara State Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

According to Saba, the matter was handled largely by his aides, and he never personally collected money.

“They didn’t collect any money for me. My PA issued him an aide’s ID card, and he received salaries for four months which he returned to my PA. The problem started when the SGF refused to approve the passport because a senator had faced issues over a similar request. That was why he didn’t get it. He now turned around to accuse me of fraud,” Saba claimed.

He further alleged that Kabir was being pushed by his “political enemies” to tarnish his image.

“What he wrote is a lie. Even if they publish it and the National Assembly sees it, they can’t do anything. I will deny it. My opponents just want to disgrace me and the entire Nupe community. But only God can disgrace a man,” he added.

Kabir has now appealed directly to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Ethics and Privileges Committee to investigate the allegations.

“This is not just a personal grievance. It is a matter of national integrity. If the House fails to act, it sends a dangerous message that elected officials can exploit their people without consequence. I urge the National Assembly to open a formal inquiry into Hon. Saba’s conduct,” he told SaharaReporters.
