Sources close to The9jaTREND disclosed that Dr. Aziegbemi was kidnapped at the entrance of his house along Country Home Hotel Road, Off Sapele Road, Benin City while returning from meeting with the governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

According to the source, as the driver was about to enter the compound, the kidnappers blocked the jeep and took Dr. Tony Aziegbemi away and left the driver.

The sources also disclosed to The9jaTREND that Dr. Barr Asue Ighodalo, the Edo 2024 PDP governorship candidate was to have meeting with the Mr. Godwin Obaseki along Dr. Tony Aziegbemi yesterday (15th March, 2024) evening, but due to Dr. Ighodalo’s meeting with PDP leaders in Uromi, headquarters of Esan North-East local government area, he was unable to return back to Benin in time hence he missed the meeting with the governor.

When The9jaTREND put a call to one of the PDP leaders in the state to find out the expiration of Dr. Tony Aziegbemi as the State Chairman of the party, he said, “Aziegbemi-led Edo State Exco ended two days away, Thursday 14th March, 2024.

“Our plan is to set up Caretaker Committee to take over the affairs of the party since we have very important election coming up on September 21, 2024. As you may be aware, conducting fresh PDP State Congress in Edo State when governorship election around the corner may weakened our togetherness as one party towards winning Edo State for Dr. Asue Ighodalo as the next governor of Edo State, hence we decided to set up Caretaker Committee. Then are the election, the party will decide to conduct fresh State Congress of our party.”
