Benin History Week, Feb 8th -15th Annually Has Been Officiated – Nekpen Obasogie

A prominent female custodian of Edo language and culture in diaspora, Lady Nekpen Obasogie has proclaimed February 8th – 15th annually as “Benin History Week” on NEBO TV Canada.

This proclamation according to Obasogie,  coincides with the Annual Black History Month in the United State and Canada.

Lady Nekpen said,  “Since 2021, we have successfully incorporated the Benin history program into Black History Month celebration in North America.” She finally pronounced and officiated February 8th to 15th annually as Benin History Week under NEBO TV programs this year.

“This year’s Benin History program will be hosted on February 17th, 2024 with the theme: “*Exploring the History of Benin Kingdom: The Citadel of Culture”* and will be hosted simultaneously in Toronto (Canada) online and in-person in Benin City on February 17th, 2024 at 2:00PM Nigerian time.

“The physical event will be hosted at John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy in Benin City at 2:00 pm. Nigerian time and the online event will take place in Toronto via Zoom worldwide.”

Lady Nekpen Obasogie, who is the Initiator and Global Coordinator of Edo Language Day Worldwide, said that the Organizing Committee of Edo Language Day will be hosting this year’s program featuring some eminent speakers such as Prof. Frank Ikponmwosa of the Department of History and International Studies, University of Benin, Dr. Osa H. Enabulele in New Jersey and Prince Ephraim Odiakaosa Nwabuokei, also in the United States, Dr. Princess Oghogho Iyase-Odozi,  Dr. Patricia E. Fadaka-Igbinovia ( United States) Lady Aghabiomon Nogie Ogbeiwi (United States), amongst others.

Lady Obasogie asserts that  this new initiative will help to strengthen and broaden our knowledge of Benin history Worldwide urging the general public to register by sending email to nebotvnews@gmail.com to facilitate accreditation.
