By Simeon OSAJIE
President Emeritus of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Dr. Chris Ekiyor, on Wednesday, 12th June, 2024 tasked the President Bola Tinubu administration to tackle poverty in the country, particularly focusing on giving hope to the poor, who have become hopeless due to economy reality coupled with the hardship in the country.
Ekiyo, who is also President Benin 1, National Association of Sea Dogs (a.k.a. Pirate Confraternity), assured Nigerians to keep hope alive despite the daunting challenges faced in the country.
Ekiyor, who spoke to newsmen in Benin City, Edo State capital on the occasion of the 2024 Democracy Day (June 12), said the worsening inflation and economic woe was inherited and can not be changed overnight by the Tinubu administration.
He called on the government to watch words with action following the Renewed Hope mantra of the Tinubu administration, saying, “The Governorment should not continue with the elites who are already comfortable.”
Ekiyor who expressed optimism that the Renewed Hope Agenda would surmount the challenges, added that the Tinubu government is focused and determined to change the narratives.
According to him, there is hope. But that hope, as I see it today, is still for a selected few. It needs to percolate to the real people who are seeking hope.
“Actually, the hope that is being pursued now, as I see it today is for those who already have hope, and the hopeless have remained hopeless.”
He noted that though the country is going through trying times, under the present administration and called on the President Bola Tinubu government to ensure that “this Renewed Hope Agenda must not continue with the elites who are already comfortable.”
