Female Genital Mutilation: Family Ostracize For Resisting Circumcision
A rift has emerged in the Agbonifo and Simon family in Benin City following a decision made by the families to strip two of their children of all entitlement and privileges for refusal to have their daughters circumcised.
This is contained in the information as announced by the two families on Thursday,12 June 2022 that Mr. Agbonifo Kingsley Oduwa and Mrs. Simon Uvbi seizes to be members of the two families for refusing to circumcise their daughters according to the law and tradition of the family.
They further added that the two daughters in question will not be recognized by the family except they obey the instructions that have been existing in the family from time immemorial.
The situation however took a new dimensions according to a family source who pleaded anonymity after the announcement made by the family, that threat was now involved and declaring both Mr. Agbonifo Kingsley Oduwa and Mrs. Simon Uvbi wanted.
The source of the information further pointed out that both husband and wife were visibly terrified by the thought of being subjected to the crude and outdated female genital mutilation which in most cases leads to the death of the woman
Continuing the source said following the mounting pressure from the families and the threat also, Mr. Agbonifo Kingsley Oduwa and Mrs. Simon Uvbi had to stop receiving their calls for their own safety and the lives of their children
On further inquiries by the The9jaTREND correspondence to the residence of Mr. Agbonifo Kingsley Oduwa and Mrs. Simon Uvbi, the building had its windows smashed and doors broken and nobody on hand to give information on their whereabouts.
