Edo Specialist Detains Humanitarian Edo Vigilante Member

A staff of the Edo State Vigilante (named withheld) was early morning of today, 21st, September, 2021 detained by staff of the Edo Specialist Hospital along Sapele Road, Benin City for his humanitarian services rendered in an incident that happened at Ogbelaka Junction, Sakponba Road, Benin City. It took the intervention of the vigilante’s colleagues before he could regained freedom from the hands of Edo Specialist Hospital staff.

According to the Edo Vigilante staff, “When l ran into the accident at Sakponba Road, l saw some of the victims on the ground and l have no option than to quickly rushed them to the Edo Specialist Hospital.

“On getting their, the insult l received from the staff of the hospital surprised me. The security officer attached to the hospital was given the order by the hospital Publica Relations Officer that l should not be allow to leave the premises. It took the intervention of my colleagues before l regain freedom.”

All efforts made by The9jaTREND to gain entrance into the premises of the Edo Specialist Hospital was vehemently resisted by the Public Relations Officer of the hospital who also declined comment.

As at the time of filing this report, two dead bodies were on the entrance of the hospital covered with cloths.

On how the accident happened, an eyewitness who refused to give his identity and a survived of the accident said, “two tippers lorry loaded with sand were coming from the Sakponba Road axis down to Ring Road while the two-taxi driver with full load of passengers were coming from Ring Road axis heading towards Sakponba Road.

“One of the tippers (truck) was trying to overtake the other when the accident happened. As you see, it was a head-on collision, about 10 persons died while some are receiving treatment at the Edo Specialist Hospital.”

Helpless onlookers and sympertizers flooded the scene in attempts to rescue the survivals, as blood stains and relics of the badly damaged vehicle littered the scene of the incident.

When contacted to confirmed the number of lives lost, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bello Kontongs, said three passengers of the taxi bus were confirmed dead at the spot while one was reported dead at the Edo Specialist Hospital while others are receiving treatment at the Edo Specialist Hospital and Stella Obasanjo Hospital.
