Era Of Imposing Candidates By Political Parties Are Over In Edo – Samson Momorin
…2022 – The Year Edo Youths Will Retire Old Politicians
By Simeon OSAJIE
As we enter into the year 2022, a foremost youths mobilizer in Edo politics, Mr. Samson Momorin, has advised politicians in Edo State to drop the idea of imposing candidates on the political parties.
Mr. Samson Momorin popularly called “Masses Eye” by his teeming supporters made the appeal during an interaction with The9jaTrend in Benin City when answering questions on what the future holds for Edo youths in the forthcoming elections.
According to Mr. Momorin, “the era of imposing candidates on the youths is over. Any politicians having the mind of taking the youths for a ride in the forthcoming elections, should think otherwise, because the youths are willing to take their rightful in place in Edo politics.
“Gone are those days when youths labour for politicians and later neglected. Nigerian youths are working round the clock, putting finishing touches on political party that will take over power in Edo State politics and Nigeria at large.
“#EndSars is an attestation to how serious the youths are. If not for some of the youths who betrayed us during that #EndSars protest, Nigeria could have been a better place to dwell in by now. The youths have learnt their lesson and will not allow such betrayals to find their way into our organization.
“As regard to what is happening in Edo State political , I am afraid that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) will not have a better candidates in any future elections in Edo State. My reasons are simple, the youths in Edo State want to take their rightful place in terms of politics in Edo State, the youths are moving towards that direction, and will overcome all their hidderances in Edo State politics. we are going to retire the old eggs in Edo State politics henceforth,” he emphasised.
“Leadership of Edo State PDP and APC are very grinding, politics is give and take issue. When you talk of harmonization, all party faithfuls should be carried along, I mean from Unit, Ward, Local and to Edo State level. You cannot say you have harmonized and your harmonization dwell on those who are loyal to you, its never work well in that regard.”
Mr. Samson Momorin appreciated His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State for the tremendous achievements recorded so far in the state. “Surface to say that the governor followers are not helping matters at all, they refused to tell him the right thing to do. You don’t have to forced followers when it comes to politics, don’t engage your followers into fight, rather engage them with dialogue. That tells a good leader. We should be human in decision taken because we are from different background.
“What I was expecting from those who claimed to be loyal to His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki in decision taken, is to tell him the truth that will usher in a new dawn in Edo State polities.
“I can remember vividly when his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole came into political system in Edo, he was not having any structure, but that of Osagie Ize-Iyamu. He was able to sold himself to about 85% of Ize-Iyamu followers which gave him victory in the last APC primary in Edo State. That is a right-thinking politician.
“Our politicians should note that, in life, one requires others knowledge to excel. I copy the best from you to succeed while you are to do similar from me to succeed too. I will advise His Excellency, Governor Obaseki to take a cue from what his predecessor did which makes him to remain relevance in Edo State politics.
“As I always tell people, some are gifted with knowledge but lack wisdom while others are gifted with wisdom but lack knowledge, is a give and take issue. Nobody is 100 per cent perfect in this life.
“The rift in APC at the national level is fall back to President Buhari who is not willing and ready to call for a round table discussion to settle the aggrieved members in APC. Is it because he is doing his last tenure as president. Too bad, maybe he doesn’t want APC to continue exist after his tenure.”
As regard to what happen to former minister of works and a chieftain of APC in Edo state, Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi during the National Convention of the party, the youths mobilizer said that Engr. Ogiemwonyi deserves public apology from Edo state ACP.
“In view of the above, Edo APC still owing Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi open apology over what transpired in the last APC primary where he was opening humiliated by the National Working Committee in Abuja. His followers are still sobber over the public disgraced. In the spirit of fairness and harmonization, Edo APC should call Engr. Ogiemwonyi and publicly apologize to him.”
Talking about the achievements recorded by the present Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Momorin opined, “The legislators has neglected the purpose while they were voted into power, no check and balance in their government, they prefer to be rubber stamp to the government who they suppose to checkmate. Too bad from them. In our forthcoming election, we are going to separate the boys from the men, enough is enough, we cannot continue this way.
“To Edo State youths, my advise is that, we should not allow ourselves to become used and dumped by old politicians, we should wake up and take our rightful place in polities. The #EndSars protest is an eye opener for us to come together and fight for our right. The youths must come together and retire the old politicians so as to bring back the adage which says, youths are the leaders of tomorrow. We cannot be the leaders of tomorrow by allowing us to become used and dumped by old eggs politicians. Together we shall overcome,” he admonished.
