Chairman of Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Festus Alenkhe called on journalists in the State to enlist into the Edo State Traffic Mayor of Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA) to help in reducing traffic congestions across the state.
Comrade Alenkhe made the statement when members of the Edo State Traffic Mayor paid courtesy visit to NUJ exco at the council secretariat in Benin City.
He said that if Edo journalists enlist into the traffic mayor, it will go a long way to assist in reducing the stress on commuters as a result of traffic congestions in the metropolises in particular and the State in general.
He therefore call on journalists in the state to enlist into the Traffic Mayor of EDSTMA.
The Edo NUJ boss invited Journalists who are interested in joining Traffic Mayor to reach out to Comrade Andy Egbon, Secretary of the council.
“There shall be training by the Red Cross of Edo journalists in the area of accident management which will also include members of the Traffic Mayor,” he assured.
Comrade Alenkhe thanked the traffic Mayor for the good work they are rendering to members of the public.
“Your work is very important. I want to appreciate the activities of Road Safety, Special Marshal and Red Cross across the state. Your work is encouraging and I thank you for helping EDSTMA to ease their job.”
Going further he added, “Humanitarian work is very important for Nigerians in different categories; in health, etc. I also belong to voluntary groups as well. For instance, I am in the Red Cross and we have been collaborating with the EDSTMA for a very long time. The Red Cross at a time trained EDSTMA in the area of first aids and accident management.
NUJ Edo State Council will also partner with Red Cross to come over and train our members who are willing to join traffic mayor in the area of accident management, he assured.
Earlier, President of Edo State Traffic Mayor, Mr. Onimhanwo Emmanuel appreciated Edo journalists for the good work they are doing in the dissemination of information to the public.
“When we received the news that our friend, your colleague, the producer of Crime Watch, a popular program on Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), Comrade Festus Alenkhe, is now the Chairman of Edo State Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), we were filled with joy hence we decided to come to say congratulations. We know this man, Festus Alenkhe as a competent individual who has been doing his work which he knows how to do best. And as Mayor, we are also here to ask you “How do you feel now”, he added.
Going further he said, “We are here to express our sincere appreciation to this man, and to show our gratitude to him for been there for the less privileged in the society who do not have the money to do investigation for their loved ones who are victims of one crime or the other. He is the only one we see in the forest, in the rain, in the sun. With this, people are so happy with him.
“So, we are not here to paint your ego or to wash your ego, rather we are here to state the fact of the good work Festus Alenkhe is doing which is to uplift the entire society.
“Mayor is a voluntary organization put together by the Managing Director of EDSTMA in 2018. We came in to see how we can help EDSTMA to help drive the project of assistance in the area of traffic control across Edo State.
“We want to let you know that it is because of the regards we have for NUJ that is why we are here to see how some of your members can join us with a view to collaborating with EDSTMA in helping to reduce traffic congestion in the state, and to particularly ask Festus Alenkhe, (How do you feel now)” he said.
