Edo NUJ Secretariat Cautions Tenants Over Unlawful Assembly

Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has cautioned all tenants at the state secretariat to desist from allowing their business premises to be used by unauthorised persons and groups in different guises to perpetuate their evil acts.
In a public notice issued and signed by the union’s secretary, Andy Egbon which was made available to newsmen stated that those wishing to assemble in the premises of the Edo NUJ secretariat for whatever reason should please obtain written permission from the leadership of the Union led by Comrade Festus Alenkhe.
Part of the statement reads, “It has come to the notice of the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council that some persons and groups in different guises have resorted to the use of the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council for unlawful assembly.
“For the benefit of doubt, the union frowns at such practice as it is not in the best interest of the union or its members.
“Let it be known to all persons, groups and other stakeholders, including friends of journalists and the union generally that the union takes exception to unlawful assembly in the premises of the union.
“Those wishing to assemble in the premises for whatever reason should please obtain written permission from the leadership of the union led by Comrade Festus Alenkhe.

Going further. the statement added that store owners and other tenants in the premises of the union’s secretariat are advised not to allow their business area to be used for any sort of gathering without the express permission of the relevant organ(s) of the Union.
“Allowing such unlawful assembly will be tantamount to compromise which will attract sanction from the leadership of the union,” the notice advised.
