The National Association of Seadogs, (NAS), (Pyrates Confraternity) has admonished the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) on the need to conduct free, fair and credible polls in the 2023 general elections.
At a rally organised in Benin City, the Edo State capital, the NAS First Mate, Benbow Deck, Mr. Emozozo Ibrahim said that the members of the association are not demanding too much in the forthcoming elections.
“All we are asking for is free, fair and credible elections come 2023.”
Addressing journalists at the Edo State secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), the second Mate, Dr. Chucks Nwaka opined that Nigeria can conduct free, fair and credible elections.
“We as National Association of Seadogs, we are for the best interest of humans; we are calling on the INEC and NUJ to help achieve this feat,” he said.
Responding, the Edo State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Comrade Festus Alenkhe said that the union is in support of such advocacy and emphasized that the era of electoral killings is over.
“We want to commend you for embarking on such a project. We will support it with our publicity and ensure the message gets to the barest.
“I also want to join forces with your association to call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that 2023 general elections will be adjudged the best election ever conducted by the Commission.
“We should be seen moving forward in terms of conducting elections. Nigeria is tagged as the giant of Africa and we must leave by example. Our elections should be a case study for other Africa countries to emulate,” he said.
