Zone 5 Police Operatives Arrests Suspect For Attempting Rap, Murder

The operatives of the Zonal Intelligence Bureau, Zone 5 Headquarters of the Nigerian Police, Benin City, Edo State capital has arrested one Peter Osayemwere ‘male’ aged 34, who was alleged to be involved in a case of attempted rape/murder at Federica Hotel, Benin City.
According to DSP Tijani A. Momoh Zone 5 Police Public Relations Officer, “on the 26th November, 2022, at about 2pm Police operatives of the Zonal Intelligence Bureau, Zone 5 Headquarters, Benin, acting on credible information arrested one Peter Osayemwere ‘m’ aged 34 years, who was alleged to be involved in a case of attempted rape/murder at Federica Hotel, Benin City.
“Preliminary investigation into the case at the Zone revealed that the victim, one Elimian Iziegbe Success ‘f’ aged 18 years, had met the suspect on Thursday 24th November, 2022, while looking for a job along Gapiona Road, G.R.A, Benin City.
“The suspect deceived the victim that he is the Manager of Federica Hotel located at Gapiona area of G.R.A, and that he will contact her for a job interview. The victim stated that she received an SMS on 25th November, 2022, inviting her for a job interview the next day at the aforementioned hotel.”
DSP Momoh added, “the victim stated further that she prepared herself by dressing in a black skirt and white shirt as instructed by the suspect. She further added that on the 26th November, 2022, she met with the suspect, Mr. Peter Osayemwere at the said hotel, but was surprised when he asked her to come to his hotel room located at the first floor of a 3 story hotel building for the supposed interview.
“She revealed that in the hotel room, the suspect started making sexual advances at her, and when she resisted, he tried to force himself on her, closing her mouth with his hands to prevent her from shouting, applying great pressure on her neck, and further inserted her head into a full bucket of water, in an attempt to kill her.
“In the course of attempting to rape and kill her, the victim sustained several injuries on her head and other parts of her body. The victim has since been receiving treatment at the Police Cottage Hospital, as well as the Specialist Hospital in Benin City.
“The suspect has been arrested and has made useful statement to the Police, scene of crime has also been visited. The Police is still expecting other witnesses to come forward with useful statement regarding the case. Suspect will be arraigned in Court once investigation is completed.”
Meanwhile, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5 Headquarters, Benin, comprising Delta and Edo State Police Commands, AIG Lawani Tanko Jimeta has urged the Zonal personnel to remain focused on the fight against crime and all forms of criminality, while soliciting for continued support and cooperation of citizens of the two states within the Zone.
