The Commissioner for Energy, Chief Fred Obe, made this promise in a meeting with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in his office in Asaba.

Chief Obe said that the ministry would partner with BEDC to ensure epileptic power supply was a thing of the past.

He called on the new management of BEDC to improve on their service delivery, stressing the need for it to change the negative image created by the old management.

The commissioner said that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was ready to finish strong in critical areas especially the power sector.

The Vice President, Delta State Association of Chambers of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture, (DACCIMA) and Mrs. Stella Imisialu-Akpode, 4th Vice President, Warri Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, (WACCIMA), pleaded with BEDC to reverse the epileptic power supply.

While calling for the complaint of lack of meters and estimated billing system to be looked into, they affirmed that the epileptic power supply was negatively affecting micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME).

In his response, the Chief Commercial Officer of BEDC, Mr Collins Igwe, thanked the Delta State Government for calling the meeting and also for its intervention in electricity matters in the state and solicited for more interventions.

He, however, complained of meter bypass, vandalism and none payment of bills as problems militating against BEDC’s efforts to meter every household thereby thwarting their efforts in ensuring that power supply was steady.
