The Irrefutable Truth of the Matter

An obviously false and fake report has been making rounds in the social media space in the past few hours alleging that a group of former LGA Chairmen held a contentious meeting with Governor Godwin Obaseki regarding the March 11th
Election .

The story was “manufactured” that our respected Governor had convened a meeting to discuss the upcoming Saturday House of Assembly Election. The fictionalized social media tale also referenced the participation of a diligent public servant, the Commissioner for Local Government, Hon. Osaigbovo’s participation in the alleged meeting.

We the Immediate Past Chairmen of Local Government Councils, Edo State, wish to offer our vehement condemnation of the libelous and malicious publication by a third-grade cowardly writer whose name we cannot even dignify by mentioning it in this refutation.

Very clearly, some people are confusing the idea of citizen- journalism with a deficit of the essence of the pursuance of truth with a sense of responsibility in online mass communication.

The referenced meeting between the former LGA Chairmen and the Governor is the poisonous concoction of the sick imagination of the author of the idiotic tale. We state here without equivocation that no such event ever held. It is shocking that the purveyor of the “dream” meeting that was never convened descended into his own “abysmal nightmare” of the Governor storming out of the fictional event.

We are fully cognizant of the diabolical intention of the circle creating and propagating this story with the plot to create a politically debilitating wedge between the Governor and the former LGA Chairmen. There was no recent meeting, there was not even such a contemplated gathering, between the Governor, so the tale of the Governor angrily “storming out” of a meeting with us is a total fabrication.

We remain humble and proud of the phenomenal and indelible achievements during our tenure under the enviable leadership of the Governor.

The agenda of disunity and confusion being peddled on the social media in this surreptitious machination will not succeed.

We remain unwavering in our very best wishes and prayers for the administration and the people of Edo State.
