Aiding Of Suicide: Court Fixes April 30 For Hearing Of Accused’s Human Rights

A Benin High Court presided over by Justice Igho Patricia Braimoh has adjourned for hearing the case of enforcement of fundamental human right instituted by Chukwudi Akpotowho Mudiaga to 30th April, 2024.
Mudiaga is named as a Defendant in the case of aiding the suicide of Lilian Omokhuale the daughter of Francis Omoruyi Oloton, a business mogul and Chief Executive Officer of Uyi Technical Company Limited.
Mudiaga in Suit No. B/529M/2023 which was filed on the 23rd November, 2023 through Eghosa Aganmwonyi Esq., leading Counsel to the Applicant, said the case which was meant for mention requested for accelerated hearing and the protection of the Applicant.
Barr. Aganmwonyi further requested for the protection of the court for the Applicant whom he said is being harassed and subjected to unwarranted arrest by the Respondents coupled with cyberbullying and trial.
Justice Briamoh called for restraint on the side of the 1st to 5th Respondent in their investigation as well as the media so as not to jeopardize the case before the court.
The Inspector General of Police, (IGP), Assistant Inspector General of Police, (AIGP) Zone 5, Commissioner of Police, (CP) Edo State, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Department Of State Security (DSS), Edo Command and
Elder Francis Omoruyi Oloton are Respondents in the suit.
The case was mentioned today, 21st, February at the Benin High Court, Edo State state, based on a Motion on Notice brought pursuant to Order 45 Rule 4 of the Edo State High Court (Civil Procedures) Rule 2018 and under the inherent jurisdiction of the honourable court.
