A Chieftain of the  Labour Party (LP) in Edo State, Dr. Kingsley Okundaye has described the purported parallel primary of the Olamidi Apapa faction as unnecessary saying the unity of the party at this point in time is more sacrosanct that attempting to destroy the party.

Okundaye who congratulated the former National  NigerIan Bar Association (NBA) President Olumide Akpata as the party’s candidate said his coming will be changing the narrative of the party which the obidient movement had always wanted and will give the party an edge in winning the governorship  election scheduled for September 21st 2024.

In a chat with newsmen in Benin City, Dr. Okundaye said that competence and capacity stands out the party’s candidate to win the election.

He said that the party has in the last few years concerned itself with deepening democracy by emphasizing competency and capacity over rotation and other considerations.

According to him, “Akpata has come to realize that the election is about people and the people must drive the process and the process will go a long way to re-establish  LP’s commitment to democracy.

“Akpata has come to change the old order; Akpata will be a game changer in the election; he has built enough trust among the people by identifying with the dreams and aspirations of the people.”

The Labour Party chieftain disclosed that the ‘Obidient’ Movement would continue to be a force in ensuring that LP wins elections in the state.

He said that the Labour Party Patriotic Members Congress (LPPMC) has commenced the process of exploring all avenues to address the internal wranglings in the party.

LPPMC is a congregation of stakeholders of LP, including elected party men and women in government at the state and national levels, members of the Obedient Support Group from across the 36 of the federation and Abuja who are committed to strengthening LP’s stronghod and enlarging its support base.
