Former Edo Speaker Okiye Resigns From PDP
By Simeon OSAJIE
Former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly and Ex-Edo 2024 governorship aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Rt. Hon. Francis Okiye has resigned his membership from the Party with immediate effect.
In his resignation letter dated Friday 10, 2024 and address to the Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ward 3, Arue – Uromi, Esan North-East local government area of the state, Rt. Hon. Okiye, a three (3) time member of Edo House of Assembly, said his decision is stemmed from the alienation of the majority of his constituents and supporters by the state government under Governor Obaseki from the activities and programs of the party and the government of the state.
According to Okiye, “As if that is not enough the party candidate has declared that he would continue in the Governors Principle should he win the September election, other reasons are those personal to me.”
The former Majority Leader, EDHA (2007), former Deputy Chief of Staff (2015), Special Adviser (2018) and former Speaker (2019) who was however silent on his next political move, added that other reasons for quitting the PDP are personal to him.
In the resignation letter, a copy of which was forwarded to the state chairman, Okiye penned that he was officially writing to the Ward 3 chairman to inform him of his withdrawal of membership of the PDP with immediate effect, adding: “On behalf of my family and supporters, I thank you and others for the opportunity given to me to serve while in the party.”
Okiye’s resignation reads in part:
