A stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo Central Senatorial District, Deacon Darlington Okpebholo Ray, has advised the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Matthew Okpebholo to honourably step down from the race over his embarrassing comments in the United States of America, saying his choice might likely become a monumental disgrace to the senatorial district and by extension, to the state at large.

He gave the advice while reacting to the comments credited to the governorship candidate of the APC, Senator Monday Okpebholo in the US.

Deacon Okpebholo Ray said the people from the Central are too academically sophisticated to have thrown up the like of Monday Okpebholo as a choice of such an enviable seat.

“Monday Okpebholo is not just an APC shame but shame to the whole state but particularly to the contemporary Esan Nation, that in all the years of our educational exploration across the globe and our political experience, this is the best a party could produce as a candidate from Esan land”, Okpebholo Ray said.

The PDP bonafide member added that though they are still rueing their earlier mistake of choosing him as their Senator, they cannot afford to make the same mistake the second time.

“Even as we continue to regret his emergence as our Senator, we will continue to reject and resist any attempt to force this shame upon our state and people.

“Monday Okpebholo should be advised to withdraw from this race to stop further embarrassment to the state and Esan people.

“A man who cannot differentiate between museum and zoo where animals are kept is not fit to be a senator let alone being a governor”, Okpebholo Ray added.

He further maintained that to govern the state, it requires someone with high intelligent quotient and tact and not just to answer the name that he or she is a governor.

He said that the level at which the current governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has placed the state among the comity of states and nations, it requires a person with high sense of intelligent and charisma to build on his achievements and not the other way round.

He said the present signs are evidently enough for the people of the state to make the right choice by voting Asue Ighodalo against Monday Okpebholo.
