LG Autonomy: LP Chieftain, Okundaye Applauds Supreme Court Judgement

The Labour Party (LP) National Transition Committee Chairman Of Mobilization, Recruitment (NTCCMR) and National Coordinator of Labour Party Patriotic Members Congress Dr. Kingsley Oghogho Okundaye has described the Supreme Court judgement on local government autonomy as a welcome development.
In a statement personally signed by Dr. Okundaye and made available to newsmen says the local government autonomy will be of great benefit to the people in the grassroot as it will also open a path to rural economic development.
On implementation by the leadership of the various local government that will yield positive result beneficial to the people, Dr. Okundaye said it will be solely dependent on a clear vision, focus, and commitment of the local government leaders to the needs of their people.
The LP Committee Chairman advised the chairmen of local government not to see the autonomy judgement as a Greek gift for looting but an avenue to put in intensive developmental zeal which will result in people oriented projects.
The Labour Party bigwig said the judgement should be an open avenue to streamline the running of the local government administration in the country so that what was supposed to be a blessing should not turn to a curse because of bad management of the 774 local government in the country.
However, Dr. Okundaye was explicit on ways to check mismanagement of the funds suggesting that a mechanism be put forward to serve as a check so that chairmen can be Accountable to the people.
