Police Needs Directive To Enforce Court Judgement, Says Edo CP
By Simeon OSAJIE
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Funso Adegboye today Friday 19th July said that it is not the obligation of the Police to enforce court judgement unless there is a directive to that effect from appropriate quarters.
The9JaTREND reports that Mr. Adegboye disclosed this during a press conference in Benin City, the state capital while shedding light on the circumstances that led to the death of Inspector Onoh Akor, aide of Senator Monday Okpebholo, Edo governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a shootout on Airport Road, Benin City after the arrival of Mr. Philip Shaibu who was reinstated by court few weeks after he was impeached as deputy governor by the Edo State House of Assembly.
He said that there are laid down rules and regulations to enforce whatever court judgements.
“Our own is to ensure the safety of the court bailiff who are specifically in charge of enforcing court judgement; we are still expecting directive for enforcement of the court order,” he said.
While urging the media to help in educating members of the public on the matter, Mr. Adegboye disclosed that every court case has to be pursued to a logical conclusion, adding that “This will make the job of the Police simple.”
The Edo State Police Commissioner appealed to political actors and gladiators in the crisis that resulted in the death of the Police Inspector not to drag the Police into unnecessary controversy, saying that the ugly incidence would have been avoided if they had kept to the rules of engagement.
He said that the Police authorities have commenced investigation into the incident and have zeroed on some persons, adding that those found culpable would not be spared
