EDA Calls For Peace, Unity Ahead Of Edo Gubernatorial Election

As Edo State approaches its much-anticipated gubernatorial election on September 21, 2024, the Esan Descendants Assembly (EDA) has called on all citizens to maintain peace and unity throughout the process.
Addressing newsmen at a press conference in Ekpoma, the administrative headquarters of Esan West Local Government Area of the State, the EDA expressed gratitude to Edo North and Edo South for ceding the party tickets to Edo central, marking a historic moment of inclusiveness and equity in the state’s politics.
Speaking at the event, Prof. G. R. A. Okogun, the President of the EDA, commended the people of Edo North and Edo South for their gracious gesture, noting that it would strengthen the bonds between the districts.
According to him, “This election is a rare opportunity for unity and collective progress. The support from other regions will be remembered and cherished by the Esan people.”
On his part, the Secretary of EDA, Dr. Alex Orukpe who called for free, fair, credible and peace election come emphasized the importance of fairness and due process.
“As an assembly, we have refrained from endorsing either of the two major candidates – Senator Monday Okpebholo (APC) and Dr. Asue Ighodalo (PDP) – to show our commitment to fairness and discretion,” he said.
Dr. Orukpe also urged voters from Edo North and Edo South to continue their efforts to support the peace and equity being pursued in the state.
“Conclude the good work you have started by voting peacefully and supporting a fair electoral process,” he added.
Going further, Orukpe emphasized that violence and electoral malpractice should not be tolerated and called on all political actors and supporters to follow legal channels to address any grievances.
“We must follow due process rather than resorting to violence. The future of Edo State depends on our ability to conduct a peaceful and transparent election,” he added.
