Group Demands Public Address On Monetization, Sales Of Case File, Affidavit From Edo CP
…Appeals to CP to set up monitoring unit to go after fraudulent officers

A group known as “Bail Is Free Campaign Group” has demanded from Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Umoru Ozigi to address the alleged monetization/sales of Case File and Affidavit by the Nigerian Police Force.
In a letter address to the CP Umoru Ozigi signed by the Coordinator of the Group, Comrade Oni Edigin disclosed that this become important as regard to complains from members of the public over a fraudulent event that is being experienced in State Command Headquarter, Area Command, Divisional Headquarter and Police Post.
“The Nigerian Police Force is the most sensitive organization that have a great value to nation building and it must be collectively work together to make it free from corruption,” he noted.
Comrade Edigin specifically mentioned an incidence that transpired on the 5th of November, 2024 between his deputy coordinator, himself and IPO when the Movement visited Anti-robbery Unit in Edo State Command Headquarters.
“On the 5th November, 2024, the deputy coordinator and I visited Anti-robbery Unit in State Command Headquarters to write a statement over case we were pursuing. Only for the IPO popular known as “Omo” with phone number 08062300962, demanded the sum of N2,000 from us to be used to purchase a case file which we paid and right there in our presence called one of his colleague officers to help him purchase the case file.”
He asked “What is the official cost of the case file? Which department is responsible for the sales? Affidavit: Typing of case file that is going to court, Inviting police to the court as witness and Police visiting areas of crime etc.”
Going further, Comrade Edigin noted that Section 1 of the Police Act 2020 clearly stated that the general objective of the police are Accountability and transparency.
“On this yuletide period, we want to appeal to you (Edo State Commissioner of Police) to intensify your monitoring unit to go after the happy demand fraudulent officers who will like to use this period for extortion, intimidation and harassment of the citizens.
“We pledge our loyalty to assist your command in pointing some of those err officers. With this, Edo State can make one of the best states in terms of policing.
