“AN OPEN LETTER TO GOVERNOR OKPEBHOLO BY HON. PAUL SMITH EGUBOR: CHART A PATH OF UNITY AND PROGRESS FOR EDO STATE
“Your Excellency,
“As you begin this new chapter of leadership in Edo State, the hopes and aspirations of millions of Edo citizens rest squarely on your shoulders.
“The mandate given to you is not just a call to govern but an opportunity to lead with vision, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the collective progress of our beloved state.
“I urge you to resist the temptation to give in to political parasites who may seek to derail your administration with distractions, passing political vendettas or probes into the administration of your predecessor, Governor Godwin Obaseki.
“History has shown that Edo thrives best when its leaders rise above partisan squabbles and focus on governance that unites rather than divides.
“Governor Obaseki, despite the criticisms he may have faced, made notable contributions to Edo State. From infrastructural development to investments in human capital and governance reforms, his administration laid a foundation that deserves recognition and continuity.
“It is vital that you acknowledge these strides, appreciate the good works of your predecessor, and build upon them for the benefit of all Edo people.
“The political history of Edo is filled with examples of leaders who chose the higher road of governance over retribution.
“Professor Oserheimen Osunbor did not probe the administration of Chief Lucky Igbinedion. Comrade Adams Oshiomhole refrained from investigating Professor Osunbor, and Governor Obaseki, in turn, chose not to dwell on the past but instead focused on the future, leaving behind a legacy of governance rather than probes. This precedence of forward-thinking leadership has set a standard for Edo, and you now have the responsibility to uphold it.
“Leadership is about charting a course that unites people toward a common goal. Allowing your administration to be swayed by forces seeking to settle political scores will only sow discord and stall the progress Edo needs. The people of Edo deserve a government that prioritizes meaningful development over divisive politics. You have a unique opportunity to be remembered as a unifier who turned challenges into opportunities for growth and advancement.
“Equally, I urge you to maintain the dignity of your office by focusing on state-scale transformative projects rather than being drawn into the commissioning of small-scale private businesses. While private enterprises are vital to the economy, such activities fall outside the purview of a governor’s core responsibilities. The people of Edo expect visionary leadership that delivers mega projects, revitalizes critical infrastructure, strengthens education and healthcare, and creates an enabling environment for industries to thrive.
“Edo’s citizens are looking to you to prioritize sustainable development—advancing agriculture, fostering economic diversification, ensuring security, and promoting good governance. These are the critical areas that require your unwavering focus and attention.
“Your Excellency, the path forward is clear: reject distractions, embrace unity, and prioritize the needs of the people. The greatness of Edo lies in its ability to build on its past while forging ahead with purpose and resolve. By focusing on these principles, you can deliver a legacy that all Edo citizens will be proud of—a legacy of unity, growth, and progress.
“The people of Edo have placed their trust in you. Now is the time to rise above the fray, deliver on your campaign promises, and lead Edo State into an era of unprecedented development and prosperity.
“Hon PaulSmith Eghobor”
