As an All Progressives Congress (APC) Edo Central Senatorial District Aspirant, I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives resulting from the recent fuel truck explosion. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families and loved ones of the victims. May God grant you comfort and strength during this painful time.
In light of this tragedy, I am committed to advocating for enhanced safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future. My proposed policies include:
1. Strict Enforcement of Vehicle Maintenance Standards: Ensuring fuel tankers undergo regular inspections and are equipped with functional safety mechanisms to prevent leaks and fires.
2. Driver Training and Certification: Mandating specialized training for tanker drivers, including emergency response procedures to minimize risks during accidents.
3. Designated Safe Routes: Collaborating with transport agencies to establish and enforce specific routes for fuel tankers, away from densely populated areas.
4. Emergency Response Infrastructure: Equipping communities with fire stations and emergency response teams near major highways to address accidents swiftly.
5. Public Awareness Campaigns: Educating citizens on safe practices around fuel transport vehicles and the dangers of tampering with fuel in case of accidents.
