The Niger-Delta Youth Council (NDYC) has expressed deep frustration over comments made by the former Rivers State governor and Minister of the Federal capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and vowed to take decision action if their concerns are not addressed.

According to reports, the escalating political tensions in Rivers State have drawn a strong response from the NDYC, which has issued a stern warning regarding recent developments.

In a letter distributed to reporters in Warri, Delta State, the NDYC condemned Wike’s alleged remarks, which they perceived as dismissive and demeaning to the Ijaw people. The group strongly objected to his reported characterization of the Ijaws as a “minority group of the minorities,” calling it an insult to their heritage and contributions to the region. The youth leaders believe such statements undermine their community and reflect a broader pattern of political marginalization.

NDYC in their statement declared: “We are going to surprise the world in seven days. We won’t allow Wike to insult us”.

They emphasized their unwavering commitment to defending the dignity and rights of their people, warning that failure to address their grievances could lead to significant consequences.

The NDYC has made it clear that they will not remain silent while their history and identity are disregarded. Their demand for immediate intervention highlights the growing frustration among Niger Delta youth, who feel sidelined in political and economic discussions that directly impact their communities. They argue that their contributions to Nigeria, particularly through oil production, should warrant greater respect and recognition, rather than dismissive rhetoric.
