NEMA Seeks Media Collaboration on Disaster Control, Prevention Measures

Edo State officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), today seek for collaboration with Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council to disseminate information to the general public on disaster control and prevention measures.
Speaking during the courtesy visit to the leadership of the Union, the Head of Operations, Edo State NEMA, Ojuederie Kenoma who led other agency’s management team said the media can improve our areas of mutual understanding as regards disaster issues.
According to him, the media is critical stakeholders when it comes to disaster management and it’s only the media who can help to disseminating our information out to the public to prepare them for impending disasters, to mitigate against disasters, so that we can have a better disaster management system like that in the United States.
Responding, the Chairman of the Edo State Council of the NUJ, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, while giving his support to the idea of the collaboration between the media and the NEMA charged the agency to incorporate the aspect of training of media executives on roles they should play in disaster situation so that the collaboration would be of benefit to the people during the period.
