This denial came through a video recording played during his ongoing terrorism trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja. In the footage, Kanu distanced himself from the events in question.

The prosecution team, led by Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), had tendered a CD containing Kanu’s interrogation by the Department of State Services (DSS), which took place on July 17, 2021. During the session, DSS operatives questioned him specifically about an alleged broadcast made on Radio Biafra on October 20, 2020, which was said to have incited acts of violence.

“I swear in the name of God that created heaven and earth, I’ve no hand and I know absolutely nothing in whatever form about the riot and destruction that happened in Lagos during EndS ARS,” responded.

Going further, Kanu claimed that if he had authority over people, he would not be calling for a referendum, alleging he would’ve just woken up one day, and say, “Let us create Biafra.”

A Department of State Services (DSS) operative, who served as the second prosecution witness in the ongoing terrorism trial of Nnamdi Kanu, testified behind a protective screen to maintain confidentiality and security.

Following the testimony, the presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho adjourned the trial to May 14, 21, and 22 for continuation of the trials.
