Democracy Day Message: A Tribute to the Spirit of Freedom and Progress

Today, as we mark Democracy Day, we reflect on the journey of our great nation – Nigeria – and the collective resolve of our people to uphold the ideals of freedom, justice, and inclusive governance. Democracy is more than a system; it is a covenant between leaders and the led, built on accountability, participation, and the unwavering belief that power truly belongs to the people.
In Edo State, we take pride in our longstanding commitment to these ideals. From Benin to Esanland to Afemai land, from Owan to Akoko-Edo, our people have continued to demonstrate a deep and abiding faith in the democratic process. Through active engagement, peaceful participation, and a tireless demand for good governance, Edo has remained a shining example of what democracy should look like in action.
While our nation still contends with economic, social, and political challenges, we must never lose sight of how far we have come. Democracy, though imperfect, offers us the platform to correct past mistakes, to dialogue across divides, and to build a more equitable society.
As we celebrate today, let us renew our commitment to democratic values—the rule of law, equity, transparency, and the protection of fundamental rights. Let us work hand in hand to ensure that democracy delivers real dividends to our people.
To the good people of Edo State and all Nigerians, I say: remain hopeful, remain engaged, and remain united.
Happy Democracy Day.
Long live Edo State.
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
