The family home of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, was attacked on Tuesday night by suspected gunmen.
The gunmen who came in sizeable numbers attacked the residence of the Senator’s family home, where they vandalized windows and other valuables and were poised to wreak further havoc before they were repelled by security forces.
The swift response of local policemen, community vigilantes, and youths in the area thwarted the attack, which led to the arrest of one suspect while others managed to escape.
The suspect, whose identity was not clearly revealed at the time of this report, was said to be a native of the community, who was allegedly linked to some powerful politicians.
He was alleged to have confessed to participating in three separate attacks on the lawmaker’s family home.
Eyewitnesses said mobs attempted to lynch the suspect before he was rescued and handed over to the Police. Items allegedly recovered from him at the scene of the crime include a cutlass and charms. The other attackers, said to be armed with dangerous weapons, were alleged to be on the run.
This latest assault follows a similar attack on the senator’s residence on April 15, 2025. That incident ended without any arrests, making Tuesday night’s arrest a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the sustained attacks against the senator’s family.
A statement issued by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s media team, called on the public to remain calm and continue to support justice, insisting that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s steadfast advocacy for her constituents should not be met with violence and intimidation.
