The Concerned Edo Citizens Forum, a non-government and non-profit organization based in Edo State today appealed to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Executive Governor of Edo State for temporary closure of schools in the State, restriction of parties, and enforcement of face masks wearing in public space to curtain the spread of Diphtheria Bacteria.
The group stated this in statement signed by Comrade Roy Oribhabor and O. A. Ibude, Esq., Convener and Secretary respectively of the group and made available to newsmen in Benin.
According to the forum, “As critical stakeholder in the Edo project with responsibility to protect the interest of Edo people, we are seriously bothered about the spread of this deadly disease ravaging our dear state.
“Research and survey conducted around hospitals clearly shows that very good number of persons are presently down with the disease and our hospitals are over stretched to accommodate patients hence, this appeal becomes necessary to curtain diphtheria disease and its spread.”
While appreciating the effort of Governor Okpebholo to mitigate the spread, the group noted that a critical and radical approach is required now to fundamentally address and tackle the disease because a healthy society is a wealthy society as the death rate has increased in recent times based on our observations and research.
The group added that the appeal is a product of a strong desire for a better Edo state and to reduce death rate, promote healthy society.
“We will continue to support your policies and programs also, advice when necessary for Edo to be great again under your leadership. Indeed new Edo is rising,” the group said.
