This was stated in a press statement signed by Amb. Edoseghe Prince Erhahon Director, One Africa Forum and made available to newsmen in Benin, Edo State capital.

The statement read:

“To the People and Government of Nigeria,

“We, the leadership and champions of One Africa Forum extend our solemn condolences to the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the passing of its former President. Muhammadu Buhari.

“President Buhari’s public journey was characterized by national service, resilience, and unwavering effort in combating corruption and insurgency. His time in office saw Nigeria reclaim strides in regional diplomacy through ECOWAS, strengthen its commitment to the African Continental Free Trade Area, and foster alliances that advanced Africa’s interests on the global stage.

“Despite these notable achievements, One Africa Forum must bear the responsibility of truth. We must also acknowledge with honesty and clarity the echoes of pain that resounded during his administration. The October 2020 nationwide protests, a defining moment in Nigeria‘s civic history, revealed troubling dissonance between the administration and the people. Rather than responding with compassion and reform, the government’s reaction deepened public mistrust. Youths, who peacefully demanded justice and accountability, were met with repression, leaving behind painful memories and unresolved wounds.

“In the spirit of reconciliation and dignity, we call upon the current leadership of Nigeria to offer full amnesty and support to all those who fled the country in fear of persecution during that time. This act of restoration would not only heal the national psyche but stand as a bold affirmation of Nigeria’s commitment to democracy and human rights.

“Let this moment transcend mourning and become a wake-up call across African leadership, a moment in history that stirs us toward a united, accountable, and free Africa – an Africa where justice is never postponed, and democracy is never denied. The measure of a leader is not in the power they wield but in the legacy they leave – etched in equity, unity, and transformative progress. Future leaders must strive to rise above factionalism and personal ambition, leaving behind footprints worthy of ancestral honor and generational pride.

“Let Buhari’s passing remind us all: Power is fleeting, but legacy is eternal. In Solidarity, Strength, and Hope for a Unified Africa, One Africa Forum.”
