Edo By-Election: Joe Ikpea Wins APC Senatorial Ticket

Former Chairman of Esan South-East local government council, Hon. Joe Ikpea has emerged candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Edo Central Senatorial By-election.
Also, former member, Federal House of Representatives, Ovia Federal Constituency, Barr. Omosede Igbinedion also emerged candidate for Ovia Federal Constituency By-election.
Both Senatorial and Federal Constituency by-elections is slated for August 16, 2025 as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Addressing journalists at the APC party secretariat in Benin, Chairman of APC 2025 Edo Central Senatorial By-Election Committee as approved by the National Working Committee (NWC), Dr. Obuaja Stanley Uzomaka said Hon. Joe Ikpea defeated his opponent Engr. Glory Oziegbe Momodu to emerge as APC candidate for the August 16, 2025 by-election in the state.
According to him, “The exercise was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner, seamless manner. The exercise took place across the 51 wards of Edo Central Senatorial District. The mode of the primary was direct primary. Voting took place across all wards of Edo Central Senatorial District. We have Engr. Glory Oziegbe Momodu and Hon. Joseph Ikiagbe Ikpea who participated in the exercise. At the end of the exercise, we collated the results at the local government level, from the local government level, we proceeded to the headquarters of the senatorial district where the results were announced.
“Based on the results with us, Hon. Joseph Ikiagbe Ikpea emerged as the APC candidate for Edo Central senatorial by-election coming up on Saturday, 16th August, 2025.”
“In line with the directive of the leadership of our party and in accordance with Article 84 Subsection 4 (B) and (C) of the 2022 Electoral Act as amended, affirmation was done immediately after the results was announced and the 255 Delegates; 55 delegates that emerged yesterday during the delegate congress election, per ward converged at the same venue and affirmed the outcome of the primary election that Hon. Joseph Ikiagbe Ikpea won the election.”
In the same vein, Chairman of APC 2025 Ovia Federal Constituency By-Election Committee, Barr Lucky Ajokperiniovo said the primary was conducted in 23 wards that make up the federal constituency.
“It was a hitch free election. It was a successful one because the election produced a sole candidate. Most of the aspirants that indicated interest to contest the election before the election, the party worked very hard to talk to them. They step down for the sole aspirant who is in the person of Hon. Omosede Igbinedion who now emerged the candidate for of Ovia North-East and Ovia South-West federal constituency.
“The turnout was impressive. They conducted themselves in a very orderly manner. So, we didn’t have any headache,” he said.
In his remarks, State Chairman of the party, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe while appreciating the maturity displayed by party members throughout the primaries
According to him, “Now that we have candidates that have emerged in our various primaries today, we want to hit the ground running for campaign. We are going to campaign as if we have never campaigned in this state before because we want to win the election for women. We want to prove to the whole world, to Edo state and to Nigerians that we actually won the governorship elections. So, we are not going to leave any stone unturned in campaign.”
