Saudi Arabia-based defender Ashleigh Plumptre has delivered a candid message ahead of Nigeria’s crucial final group game against Algeria at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Plumptre has stressed that the Super Falcons must fight for every result because no game is guaranteed in African football.

The talented defender, who was voted fans’ Player of the match following her outstanding performance in Nigeria’s hard=fought win over Botswana, spoke in a heartfelt video on Instagram.

Plumptre acknowledged the high expectations surrounding the team but reminded everyone of the unique challenges African football presents.

“We just have to realise that even though we have high expectations of ourselves and everyone has high expectations of us, at the end of the day this is African football,” Plumptre said. 

. “So, every game is not a given, we have to work for it.”
