Kwara Workers Lament Sacking After Refusing To Inflate Residents’ Database To 3million Ahead Of 2027 Election Rigging Plot

Some staff of the Kwara State Resident Registration Agency (KWASSRA) have accused the agency’s leadership of carrying out mass sackings and maltreatment of workers who refuse to meet unrealistic data collection targets.
It was learnt that the targets are allegedly tied to the political ambitions of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The whistleblowing workers, claimed they were being pressured to compile a database of at least three million residents — a figure they said was being demanded by the agency’s Managing Director to support what they believe is an attempt to manipulate the 2027 electoral process in favour of the APC.
According to one of the affected staff members under the contition of anonymity for fear of retaliation, “A lot of us are already losing our jobs because of the pressure on the MD to get 3 million residents’ database for the governor. We learned that he is doing this for the Governor and the ruling APC to rig the 2027 election.”
Another affected staff member painted a grim picture of their working conditions, alleging they were now being forced into aggressive, door-to-door data collection campaigns with no logistical support, a sharp deviation from the original terms of their engagement.
“When we were given this job, there was nothing like a target. We were to sit in a place and people would come to us. But now we are forced to roam around — going to marketplaces, people’s houses — because of the pressure to complete our target,” the staffer said.
“People embarrass us, push us away, saying they don’t trust the government. There’s no job in the country and they are using that as leverage to maltreat us. If you don’t hit your target, even if you’ve worked from the 1st to the 28th of the month, they’ll sack you — just like that. And don’t forget, people have already been laid off.”
According to the workers, the agency’s head initiated a “mobile registration” scheme in the state capital and began recalling sacked staff without officially rehiring them, effectively exploiting their labour without pay.
“He called back those he had sacked for not meeting the target, saying they can join the new mobile registration in Ilorin. But he already pocketed their salaries. Even if they do 75, 80, or 90 registrations out of 100, they’ll still be told they don’t qualify for pay.”
Workers also recounted how they were left stranded in remote areas without shelter or support, often forced to sleep in mosques, churches, or with distant relatives during field assignments.
“Some of us slept in mosques in the communities we were posted to. People said they weren’t informed of our arrival and didn’t know why we came in such numbers. At the end of the day, we were abandoned there,” one of the affected staff lamented.
“There was no accommodation provided. The security personnel who accompanied us would return to Ilorin once we got to places like Baruten and Kaima. We were left alone. It was by the grace of God that we managed to return to the state capital after weeks of working under such dangerous and humiliating conditions.”
The workers are calling on civil society groups and the media to investigate the abuse of public data infrastructure for partisan purposes, and the inhumane treatment of workers recruited under false pretenses.
As at the time of filing in this report, neither the KWASSRA management nor the Kwara State government has responded. (SaharaReporters)
