PDP Governors Warn Wike, Others Against Derailment of November Nat’l Convention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum have insisted that the party’s forthcoming National Convention scheduled for November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State must hold.
The governors cautioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and other party members against actions that could derail the scheduled national convention.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its 7th meeting held in Gusau, Zamfara state capital on Saturday, the governors reaffirmed their commitment to the resolutions of the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of July 2025, which endorsed the convention date.
“The Forum reaffirms its full commitment to the resolutions of the 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of July 2025 regarding the November 15 National Convention,” the communiqué read.
“It urges members to resist all attempts to derail the convention by anti-party forces; but to see the PDP as the only democratic institution and viable alternative for restoring Nigeria along the path of good governance and national development,” the communiqué added.Nigerian cultural tourism packages
The meeting, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, deliberated on insecurity, the erosion of democratic values, and preparations for the national convention.
The governors praised PDP leaders and members for withstanding orchestrated defections, insisting that such distractions could not erode the party’s grassroots appeal or Nigerians’ desire for affordable living and security under PDP-led governments.
The Forum accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of “divisive governance” and policies that continue to inflict hardship on citizens, while restating its commitment to “rescuing the country.”
Similarly, the PDP Youth Leaders Forum reaffirmed its commitment to the success of the convention.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Forum described the convention as “sacrosanct” and critical to the party’s future.
“The Forum declares the convention as sacrosanct, emphasizing its critical role in shaping the party’s future and strengthening its position as Nigeria’s leading political force,” the statement read. Nigerian cultural tourism packages
“The #Ibadan2025 National Convention is poised to be a defining moment for the PDP, where key decisions will be made to elect new national leaders, review party policies, and set a strategic roadmap for the 2027 general elections.”
The Chairman of the Forum of PDP Youth Leaders and Gombe State Youth Leader, Hon. Jamilu Ali, underscored the importance of transparency and inclusivity.
“We stand firmly behind the PDP National Convention and the zoning committee. The November 15 and 16, 2025 National Convention date is sacrosanct,” Ali said.
“The youth of this party are ready to mobilize, engage, and contribute to a convention that will produce credible, visionary, and people-oriented leadership. #Ibadan2025 is not just a date; it is a movement for progress, unity, and victory,” he declared.
The Youth Forum also commended the National Working Committee (NWC) for its “diligent efforts in organizing the convention and ensuring fairness and accountability,” while urging young Nigerians to join the party’s ranks and participate in shaping its agenda.
The warning from the PDP Governors’ Forum comes amid rising tension following recent remarks by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Speaking on Channels TV on Tuesday, August 19, Wike expressed dissatisfaction with the PDP National Working Committee’s retention of Ali Odefa as National Vice Chairman (South East) and rejected the South-South caretaker committee.
He insisted that his ally, Chief Dan Orbih, was duly elected National Vice Chairman (South-South) at a congress in Calabar.
“Our congress was held in Calabar, and there’s nothing anybody can tell us. If they want to have another round of crisis, so be it.
“In that congress, Chief Dan Orbih emerged as the National Vice Chairman. They never wanted the congress to be held, but congress was held,” Wike said.
He accused the party’s acting national chairman of attempting to undermine the process by writing to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the congress had been postponed.
“There is no two ways about it. The National Vice Chairman of PDP South-South is Chief Dan Orbih. If they don’t agree, that’s another round of crisis,” he warned.
Wike has also rejected the zoning committee chaired by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.
Once an ally of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde in the G5 group, Wike has since fallen out with him, as party members increasingly accused him of anti-party activities, allegations he denied.
