The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended one of its chieftains and former senatorial aspirant, Hon. Valentine Asuen, over alleged acts of indiscipline and conduct deemed capable of destabilising the party.
In a statement issued on Monday by the State Publicity Secretary, Barr. Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, the party said the decision was taken “in accordance with the provisions of the APC Constitution 2022, as amended.”
According to the statement, Asuen’s conduct was found to be in breach of the spirit of unity, loyalty, and collective progress that the APC stands for.
“His actions have been deemed to amount to inciting division within the Party, thereby undermining the cohesion and discipline expected of every member,” Uwadiae-Igbinigie said.
Citing Articles 21:2 (ii) & (v) and 21:5 (a), (c), (d), (e), (f) & (h) of the APC Constitution, the party noted that such infractions amount to punishable offences, warranting disciplinary measures, including suspension.
The statement reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to internal democracy and discipline, stressing that no conduct capable of inciting disaffection or eroding party unity would be tolerated.
It also dismissed insinuations of undue influence in political appointments under Governor Monday Okpebholo, insisting that all appointments made so far have been evenly distributed across the state, including Oredo Local Government Area.
On the appointments, the party clarified that the Okpebholo led administration has been fair to all loyal members of the party in appointments emphasizing that “all appointments made thus far by His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo, have been evenly distributed across the state, including Oredo Local Government Area, without any undue influence from the Party’s Secretary, Engr. Lawrence Okah.
The Party urges all members to remain steadfast, united, and focused on the collective vision of the APC, as we continue to work towards delivering good governance and democratic dividends to the people” he added.
