The Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Edo State chapter, Comrade Bernard Joman Egwuaghide, has insisted that he remains the authentic chairman of the union in the state.
Egwuaghide emphasized this after the National leadership of the union representatives reportedly failed to show up for the inauguration of a substantive caretaker committee scheduled to hold at the State NLC secretariat located at Temboga road in Benin City.
The Edo NLC Caretaker Committee Chairman who spoke to journalists in his office at the union secretariat, stated that his Exco and other members waited all day for the National officials, to no avail.
According to him, “From the directive and the letter sent by the National secretary, it stated that they are coming to inaugurate a caretaker committee, we have been here since morning, other workers have been here.
“We have not seen anybody that came into this place to inaugurate any committee. So, we feel that there is nothing that has happened again.
“In all, I Comrade Bernard Egwuakhide remain the authentic chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Edo NLC.”
Speaking further, Egwuakhide said he emerged caretaker chairman of the Edo NLC after 43 affiliate unions gave him their nods.
He stated that the development followed the removed from office, the erstwhile chairman, Comrade Odion Olaye.
Egwuakhide however accused the Comrade Joe Ajaero-led National NLC leadership of causing trouble in the Edo State chapter after he attempted to impose a leadership committee on workers.
He disclosed that Ajaero also flouted the Edo State House Assembly resolution calling on them to shelve the planned inauguration for peace to reign.
Meanwhile, The9JaTREND gathered that the NLC National leadership was said to have secretly inaugurated a university lecturer, Prof. Monday Igbafen and others as Caretaker Committee of the Edo State chapter of NLC.
