Lighthouse University – A Citadel of Balanced Education, Says Dr. Omobude

It was a celebration of some sort recently at the sleepy Evbuobanosa Community, near Benin, Edo State, when the only apex institution situated in that locality – Lighthouse University held its first matriculation ceremony with pomp and pageantry.

The ceremony, which was well attended by important personalities, took place at the permanent campus of the University in Evbuobanosa, situated along the Benin-Asaba Expressway.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony, the Chancellor of Lighthouse University, Rev. Dr. Felix Omobude expressed profound joy and gratitude to the Almighty God, describing the event as the fulfilment of a vision birthed in faith and nurtured through prayer, perseverance and dedication.

He described the University as a citadel of balanced education, urging parents to enrol their children and wards in order to enjoy the benefits available at the institution.

Rev. Omobude, who gave the advice during the first matriculation ceremony, disclosed that Lighthouse University integrates sound academics with spiritual and moral guidance, a serene learning environment, and a dedicated faculty and staff passionate about students’ growth, while providing unlimited opportunities for them to excel in their studies and personal development.

He called on the matriculating students to “take full advantage of these blessings,” noting that the mission of Lighthouse University is to raise self-reliant graduates firmly rooted in entrepreneurship and innovation.

According to the Chancellor, “We believe that the future belongs to those who can create opportunities rather than merely seek them. Our quest is to raise job creators and not mere job seekers. Your education here will go beyond theories in the classroom to practical applications that will empower you to solve problems, build enterprises, and impact communities positively.”

He further disclosed that the university was founded in February, 2024 with a clear vision to provide technological and management solutions to the challenges of society, even as it emphasizes the moral and spiritual development of its students.

“We are committed to raising men and women who will combine intellectual competence with moral rectitude, and who will stand as lights (Matthew 5:14) in a world often darkened by corruption and mediocrity,” he stated.

While stressing that excellence and orderliness should be their watchwords, Dr. Omobude charged the students to submit themselves to the rules and regulations of the university, assuring them that such rules are not meant to hinder them but to refine them.

“As you walk this path, remember that you are being shaped to become global citizens and change agents, ready to transform your world with knowledge, character, and faith,” he added.

While congratulating the maiden matriculants, the Chancellor admonished the students to pursue their academic journey with diligence, integrity, and God’s guidance, so that they may graduate from the institution not only with a degree but with their destinies fulfilled.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Lighthouse University, Hon. Justice Roland Amaize, congratulated the pioneer students and urged them to be good ambassadors of the university.

Similarly, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Osarenkhoe Osemwegie, commended parents for entrusting their children and wards to the university, assuring them that the dedicated and committed staff would do everything necessary to shape the future of the students through top-tier education, spiritual values, life skills, and integrity in leadership.

High point of the epoch-making matriculation event was the signing of the matriculation register by the students.

Meanwhile, admissions into various departments at Lighthouse University are still ongoing. The NUC-verified programmes include the following: B.Sc. in Accounting, B.Sc. in Computer Science, and B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Others are: B.Sc. in Information Technology, B.Sc. in Mass Communication, B.Sc. in Microbiology, B.Sc. in Political Science, B.Sc. in Public Administration, B.Sc. in Science Laboratory Technology, B.Sc. in Sociology, B.Sc. in Social Work, B.Sc. in Criminology and Security Studies, B.Sc. in International Relations and Diplomacy, B.Sc. in Computer Engineering, and B.Sc. in Business Administration.
