The State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), ASP Eno Ikoedem, who disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday, 14th December, 2025 said the incident occurred at about 7:00 p.m. on Friday 5th December 2025, when the 45-year-old suspect allegedly assaulted the teenager with a stick, leading to his death.

ASP Ikoedem said the arrest followed credible intelligence received on December 6, prompting operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, to visit the suspect’s residence, where the grim report was confirmed.

Although the identities of the suspect and the deceased were not disclosed, the police revealed that the suspect allegedly dug a grave in his family compound and buried the corpse to conceal the crime.

ASP Ikoedem stated that credible intelligence provided by the victim’s mother and grandmother led to the suspect’s arrest.

She said the grandmother, an 82-year-old woman and the suspect’s mother, live in the same household.

“The suspect further dug a grave within the compound and buried the corpse. The deceased’s grandmother, as well as the suspect’s mother, an 82-year-old woman who resides in the same house, provided useful information to the Police.

“Following due administrative procedures, the grave was exhumed, photographs were taken, and the stick allegedly used in committing the offence was recovered as an exhibit. The suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody, while investigation is ongoing,” the statement said.

Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of police inquiries.
