The Edo National Association Worldwide (ENAW) on Wednesday given hope to kidney patients in Edo State following the commissioning of a low-cost dialysis and diagnostic centre in Benin, the state capital.

It built the centre from contributions from Edo residents in the diaspora.

President of ENAW, Engr. (Mrs) Bose Ogbeifun-Oviasu, said other dialysis centres were being constructed in Okpella to serves Edo North Senatorial District and Ekpoma to serves the people of Edo Central Senatorial District.

Engr. Oviasu said the centre was dear to her because her elder sister suffered from kidney failure for seven years.

According to her, “We are opening a door to hope, healing, and human dignity. We dedicate this dialysis center – a beacon of compassion, resilience, and service – to the people who need it most.

“In 2004, my family faced a challenging journey when my beloved sister battled kidney failure. I witnessed firsthand the pain, exhaustion, and endless travelling required for treatment. More importantly, I observed her courage, and it became clear to me that many others were fighting the same silent battle, often without the means or access to care.

“It was during those long, uncertain days that a vision took root in my heart – a vision that no one should have to suffer alone or lose hope simply because they cannot afford or access lifesaving dialysis treatment.

“The EDDC in Benin (Edo South) is completed and is now being commissioned. The ENAW Dialysis Centre in Okpella, Edo North Senatorial District, has also been completed and is currently being fitted with dialysis machines and other medical devices in preparation for its commissioning soon.

“I am glad to inform you all that the ENAW Dialysis Centre in Ekpoma, Edo Central Senatorial District, is currently under construction.

“Each centre stand as a testament to what is possible when purpose meets partnership, when empathy leads to action, and when leadership is guided by love.”

Going further, Engr. Ogbeifun-Oviasu added: “EDDC Benin Performance Report: As of 31st December 2025, this dialysis centre which commenced service on 2nd April 2025 has successfully dialyzed a total of 1,380 patients in 2022 sessions.

“Also, a total of 1,647 patients received laboratory diagnostic services. These results confirm the apparent Engr. Ogbeifun-Oviasu need for this medical facility in Benin City and a testament to the quality of services we are providing at very affordable cost.

“The need is great, and our work must continue. Together, we will build more centers, touch more lives, and extend the reach of hope. We will continue to remind the world that compassion is the highest form of service and that every life saved is a victory for humanity. Let this center stand as a symbol – that from pain can come purpose, from loss can emerge legacy, and from one person’s story can rise a movement that changes many lives.”

In his remarks, the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo who commissioned the project, said the initiative aligned with his vision for the health sector in the state.

The governor who was represented by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, commended the leadership and members of ENAW – both at home and in the diaspora – this remarkable achievement noting that what you have done here today is a powerful reminder that distance does not diminish responsibility, and that love for one’s homeland knows no borders.

Governor Okpebholo said his administration placed emphasis on strengthening health care infrastructure, expanding access and encouraging partnership private.

He assured ENAW of his administration’s commitment to ensuring the centre operated according to best practices and high professional standard.

According to him, “For many families, access to dialysis determines whether a loved one lives or dies. By bringing this service closer to the people, you have reduced suffering, restored dignity, and given many families a renewed chance at life.

“Equally important is the diagnostic centre being commissioned today. In healthcare, diagnosis is the gateway to effective treatment. When we diagnose early, we treat better, we spend less, and we save more lives. This centre therefore stands as a strong pillar in preventive and curative healthcare delivery in Edo State.

“This initiative aligns perfectly with the health vision of His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, whose administration places strong emphasis on strengthening healthcare infrastructure, expanding access, and encouraging meaningful public-private and diaspora partnerships. As a government, we recognise that sustainable healthcare cannot be achieved by government alone. It requires collaboration – exactly what we are witnessing here today.

“I assure you of government support in ensuring that this centre operates according to best practices, high professional standards, and strict regulatory guidelines. Our goal is simple: safe, affordable, and quality healthcare for every Edo citizen.

“To the Edo sons and daughters in the diaspora, let this project serve as inspiration. You have shown that when we come together with purpose and integrity, we can transform lives and communities. Edo State is proud of you”.

High point of the activities was the presentation of awards to deserving staff and board members of the centre including friends of the President who has one way or the other contributed to the establishment of the centre, unveiling the Wall of Fame, commissioning of the dialysis and diagnostic centre by Governor Monday Okpebholo represented by Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole and facility tour VIPS led by the President, Engr. (Mrs) Bose Oviasu and VP/Chairman, Dialysis Project, Engr. Charles Iguobadia.
