Some lecturers of the Edo State-owned Ambrose Alli University, (AAU) Ekpoma, sacked by the immediate past administration of Godwin Obaseki have been recalled.
Their reinstatement was announced yesterday by the Executive Governor of the state, Senator Monday Okpebholo in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, (SSG) Musa Umar Ikhilor.
According to Ikhilor “Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the immediate reinstatement of staff of the Ambrose Alli University disengaged from the service of the Institution by the defunct Special Intervention Team (S.I.T.) in March, 2023 under the administration of former Governor of the state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki”.
He recalled that “the staff, who were members of the Academic Staff Union of the University, were unjustly relieved of their appointments following the agitation by staff of the Institution for the payment of their outstanding salaries and other entitlements owed to them by the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki”.
He said, “The Government of Senator Monday Okpebholo believes in the principle of natural justice, equity and good conscience, and will therefore not fail to correct any seeming injustice meted out on citizens of Edo State.
“This reinstatement, therefore, is to demonstrate His Excellency’s avowed commitment and adherence to the rule of law in governance at all times”.
The statement was however silent on whether they would be paid backlog of their salaries for the period they were at home.
