Three Policemen Who Went To Effect Arrest Die Alongside A Suspect In Ondo Accident

Three Policemen who went to effect arrest of a female suspect in Ore, Odigbo local government area of Ondo State, on Friday died in auto crash alongside with the suspect.

With the identities of the victims yet to be known as at the time of filing in this report, the police officers, who were part of the monitoring unit of the police command in the state, left Akure, the state capital, to effect an arrest in Ore before the incident.

Sources said the tragedy struck when a truck rammed into the vehicle pthe policemen and the arrested suspect were occupying.

With one of the sources who craved anonymity revealing that the victims died on the spot, it was stated that one police officer sustained serious injuries and had been rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

“The truck lost control while descending the Ore Bridge and rammed into the police vehicle that was in front of it.

“With the heavy noise emanating from the accident, everyone rushed to the scene, and on getting there we realised that the occupants were policemen. Three of them died on the spot, and one sustained injuries,”he said.

“The one that sustained injuries was rushed to the hospital. It was later that we had information that the lady that also died in the accident was a suspect who the police officers had come to arrest from Akure,” the source said.

Also, the State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) stressed that a report regarding the accident will soon be issued.

While confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, stated that the command would soon react to the situation.
