There was pandemonium in Isihuan Road, Uselu Quarters, Benin City when persons suspected to be thugs cum cultists reportedly set a building ablaze.
The incident is said to have occurred at about 1100pm on December 13, 2022 where members of the Osaghae family who are the occupants of the house were said to have escaped unhurt but they reportedly lost their home and property worth millions of naira to the inferno.
It was said that as sporadic gunshots were fired, members of the Osaghae family escaped through a bush path and ran through a maize field to flee from the community.
A resident in the area who pleaded anonymity, said that the thugs fired sporadic gunshots before setting the building belonging to Osaghae family on fire.
It was gathered that members of the Osaghae family were able to escape out of the burning building unhurt and immediately scampered to safety as sporadic gunshots were still being heard in the community.
According to the sources, the Osaghae family until the inferno of December 15, 2022, had been receiving severe death threats from unknown persons who on several occasions vowed to eliminate every members of the Osaghae family for reasons yet to be ascertained.
It was however.gathered that the prime target of the attack, Kevin Osaro Osaghae is a member of the Dynamic Club whose charitable activities are opposed by some persons, including local politicians.
Meanwhile, a statement by the Edo State Command of the Nigerian Police Force, said that it received a call on the 13th December, 2022 at about 23 000 hrs of an attack by suspected hoodlums who invaded a house in Isihuan Community and thereafter set the building ablaze.
The statement further added that while no casualties were recorded, the family of Osaghae were said to have escaped unhurt during the fire incident as investigation into the case is said to have commenced.
Our correspondent who visited the area reports that the affected building was still lying in ruins while all members of the Kevin Osaro Osaghae family have reportedly abandoned the community and apparently went into hiding for the safety of their lives.
