By Simeon OSAJIE
Members of the Edo State Supporting Teachers To Achieve Results (STAR) Fellows has appealed to the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo for their absorption as permanent teachers into the state public service.
This was disclosed in the letter titled: “APPEAL FOR THE ABSORPTION OF EDO STAR FELLOWS INTO EDO STATE PUBLIC SERVICE” addressed to His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo and signed by Joel Osaro and Mr. Austine Omookhefe, Chairman and Secretary respectively and made available to journalists.
They stated that based on their training and the knowledged acquired for the past three years, it would be unfair to be push aside considering the fact that they are the pillars holding all public schools in the state as present.
According to them, “The appeal is borne out of the zeal and dedication we have put into this job as Edostar Fellows. We have dedicated our time, left some of our loved ones to stations where we are posted; some of our fellows died during the process of our engagement as Edostar Fellows, some of our fellows had miscarriages and even got into accidents because of the rigorous Computer Based Test (CBT) and we have also been trained and engaged in the fellowship programme for three years now (March 1, 2022 till date).
“Some of our fellows gave up their admission to study other courses and took education courses during the period of these three (3) years with the hope of been absorbed at the end of the three years as permanent staff.
“To discredit us is to discredit the government schools and institutions that raised us and discredit all our efforts and time we have put into this fellowship programme.
“Your Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo during your campaign you promised to make all Edostar Fellows permanent staff and you included 5000 teachers in your plans for your first 100 days in office. Though those 100 days have passed, we are not holding you to the clock, rather with tears in our eyes and hope in our hearts. We appeal to you, please make us permanent teachers this month of April. It would be unfair to push us aside considering the fact that we are the pillars holding all public schools in Edo State presently.
“Sir, we look forward to your kind and prompt consideration as you take us to the next level in the education sector this month of April.”
