Council Chairman Flags Off Free Eye Screening in Fugar

The Chairman of Etsako Central Local Government Hon. Cephas Yakubu, in collaboration with Edo State Government has launched three days free eye screening, treatment, and cataract surgery program.
Declaring the ceremony open at Unone Comprehensive Health Centre, Fugar, the administrative headquarters of the local government, the Chairman, Hon. Cephas Yakubu said, the initiative was to provide free eye screening and treatment to residents of the local government.

According to him, the programme included comprehensive eye screenings to detect conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, amblyopia etc.
The council boss further stated that those requiring surgeries would be booked accordingly and ensures timely treatment and care is given.
He stated that the three days programme was open to children, adults, and the elderly, making it an all-inclusive initiative across the major Health Centres across the local government area.

Hon. Yakubu stressed the need of regular eye check-ups in preventing visual loss and promoting overall eye health by detecting eye diseases early to reduce individuals their risk of eye injuries and improve their visual.
The chairman however enjoined the residents for regular eye examination which could also help to diagnose other health related issues.
The council boss also expressed his gratitude to His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo for the initiative across the state, noting that it would bring significant relief to those with eye defects who could not have afford care financially.

On his part, the Team Administrator, Dr. GodsGlory Braimoh, called on the people of the local government to take advantage of the programme by getting their eyes screened and treated.
Also speaking, the Assistant Director of Nursing Services (ADNS), in Etsako Central Local Government Area, Mrs. Oghiadomhe Etu Evelyn, said, the Programme is one of its kind and appealed to state government to have such programmes done quarterly to meet the needs of the people.
“The initiative is seen as a significant step forward in Edo State, with many beneficiaries appreciating the government’s efforts in improving healthcare delivery”.
Over 2,000 people are expected to benefit from the three days programme across the local Government.
