The British High Commission has donated balls, boots, jerseys, and other sporting gear to the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), reinforcing UK-Nigeria ties and supporting rugby’s growth in the country.

The donation, in partnership with UK Charity SOS Kit Aid, aims to boost rugby development across emerging nations.

At the presentation ceremony, British Deputy High Commissioner Gill Lever praised Nigeria’s rise in rugby rankings – from 24th to 8th in Africa within three years – and highlighted the sport’s power to promote inclusion and resilience.

According to her, “I’m particularly impressed by efforts to involve more women in rugby. Nigeria has real potential to climb the global rugby ladder.”

Representing the National Sports Commission, Alhaji Mohammed Maigidasama’s delegate thanked the UK for the gesture, urging support for more federations.

NRFF General Manager Azeez Ladipo acknowledged the British High Commission and SOS Kit Aid for the initiative, noting the kits arrived at no cost to Nigeria.

Under Dr. Ademola Are’s leadership, Nigerian rugby has made major strides: launching the girls-only Rugby Rising Play Programme, hiring elite coach Steve Lewis, and winning the President’s Cup against Ghana.
