Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo has no reason to fear any opposition of whatsoever, because he is fulfilling his promises to the people.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu stated this in response to an editorial published by the Punch Newspaper on July 22, 2025 with the title: ‘Okpebholo’s reckless outburst endangers freedoms.’
The Commissioner, noted that Governor Okpebholo has made tremendous impacts in delivering the dividends of democracy since assuming office eight months ago to Edo people contrary to the opinion of the Punch editorial.
The Punch Newspaper claimed amongst others that, “if Okpebholo were truly delivering democratic dividends to his people, he would have no reason to fear an opposition leader’s visit. Issuing public threats or creating bureaucratic hurdles for political opponents is the age old tactics of those who fear competition.”
The Commissioner stated that, “There is no past administration in the state that has injected so much funds to ameliorate the plight of Edo people in infrastructures, education, human capital, health, security, agriculture and food Sufficiency, in eight months, thanks to the magnanimity of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
“In the area of security alone, Governor Okpebholo has continued to make the issue of security a major plank of his administration’s policy.
“The security situation has no doubt continued to pose a great challenge, but amidst the cacophony of voices it is easy to forget where we are coming from.
“Today, we only look at the current situation, without wondering what would have been had the Governor not taken the bull by the horns, as far as security is concerned.
“It is on record that no administration in the state has provided the security agencies with so much funds needed to tackle insecurity by judiciously using the security votes for what they are meant for unlike previous administrations and today there are solutions to the problem.”
Ohonbamu disclosed that the Punch Newspaper’s editorial is not a true reflection of the situation in Edo State, because Mr. Peter Obi is the least of the government worries and the All Progressives Congress, APC cannot be threatened.
